Rules
All planes must be as supplied, from factory, with exception of individual decorations. The launch countdown begins at 20 seconds.
The Launch is 15 second motor run, all competitors must move to the side of the landing field / area immediately after launch. (Usually a school soccer pitch)
At “Motor off” instruction, a countdown will begin for 5 minutes. Landing is judged by the person closest to but not over the 5 minute time. The highest score wins. The first person to touch down gets 1 point the second down 2 points etc. Draws all get the next point.

Pre-Launch
 Make a plan
Look for wind and thermal activity
Take note of successes in previous flights

Launch (15 second countdown)
Switch motor to full speed at 17 seconds
At 15 seconds throw plane (to get airspeed quickly) up and out.
Launch into wind and at a steep angle as practical, say 45-60 deg.
Watch to ensure that you push nose over, before or at “motor off”, to avoid stall.

 Thermal phase
At "motor off" head directly to known thermal activity
 Or
If not sure take angled attack across wind face looking for lift
If lift activity found, make flat turns, and go downwind with bubble (thermal)
Other lift may be generated by tree lines so look for them.

 Landing approach and landing
At 4 minute (1 minute to go) mark start working up wind and if need be reduce some    height.
 Depending on wind strength:-
At 30 / 20 second mark fly past your shoulder proceeding down wind and
At 15/10 second turn and make landing approach - up wind
Land keeping nose down and wings level to ground - only flare (elev up) at last seconds

Thanks to Robert and Greg for organising some practical training for members new to gliding. Very helpful and much appreciated.
