There have been a number of requests to Martin Simons for details on how to obtain copies of his books. He has kindly sent me the following information; First: I don't have any copies for sale. The author gets six copies only and these have all been given away to friends and family many years ago. I am not entitled to sell the books myself and anyway would not want to be bothered by doing this. The books have to be bought through normal business channels and the publisher takes the financial risks. That is why any author goes to a publisher. (See final comment about Airlife Publishers, below.) 'Model Aircraft Aerodynamics' (4th edition 1999) is currently being reprinted (with some small corrections) but there should still be some in stock. Don't buy the earlier editions, the 4th is much improved. There are several ways of buying these books and others of mine about model aircraft. The quickest may be to email the publisher's sales department directly. <chrlloyd@globalnet.co.uk> I think the retail price of 'M.A.ADy' in Sterling is about £11.00 but his may be slightly out of date. (Say $28.00) Airmail would of course cost something extra: Another way would be to buy on the www through <Amazon.com.uk> They offer a vast list of books, usually at a small discount. You have to search under the author's name or by title. There may be a wait of a few days. I have bought books through Amazon and they seem reliable. (There is another Martin Simons on their list but he writes advanced medical books. Definitely not me.). To buy by mail from an English bookseller is cheaper than ordering from an Australian bookshop. One bookshop in London that I have used, and where they know me now by sight, is The Aviation Bookshop, which is in Holloway Road, London, but I can't find the number or post code just now. There would probably be some delay if they have sold out when they get your letter. They usually have sold out, I find, but will re-order. Ordering through an Australian bookshop such as Dymocks, Dillons or the University of Adelaide Bookshop, takes ages and is costly. The first thing you have to do is convince them that the book exists. For this, note the IBSN 1-85486-190-5, the publisher is Nexus Special Interests of Azalea drive, Swanley, Kent BR8 8HU, England. I believe the Technical Bookshop in Melbourne usually has a few copies on the shelves. My more recent books, 'Sailplanes 1920 - 1945' and 'Sailplanes 1945 - 65', which are, oddly enough, about full scale sailplanes, are published in Germany. Enquire from <eqip@eqip.de>. Costly books. The earlier 'full scale' sailplanes book, 'The World's Vintage Sailplanes 1908 - 45'', was published in Melbourne and some copies are still available. It has more text and smaller drawings than the new books but some people still like it. Kookaburra Technical Publications, 6 Colvin Court, Glen Waverly, 3150 VIC. (No email but phone 3 9560 0841, FAX 3 9545 1121.) My other glider books 'Slingsby Sailplanes' and 'Sailplanes by Schweizer' are still be available at discount through the Vintage Glider Club in England: <Sales @VintageGliderClub.co.uk>. However, the publishers, Airlife, have gone bust so there won't be any more when the VGC have sold out, unless Raul Blacksten <raulb@earthlink.net> in the USA has a few left. Wow!
