About Flying
Radio Controlled Aircraft modeling involves many skills and disciplines. Joining our club will introduce you to members that have been modeling and flying for over 30 years and are very competent in all of these disciplines. You may also opt for the .Ready to Fly. models and still get plenty of enjoyment from the hobby. Come along to one of our flying sites, ask questions watch and learn and have a go and be prepared to have some fun!
Membership of MAAA

MASA
MASA represents South Australian aeromodellers federally through affiliation with the federal Model Aeronautical Association of Australia (MAAA). Three Executive members sit on the MAAA Board of Management MASA promotes aeromodelling by actively supporting local competitions, providing low interest loans to member clubs for the purchase and improvement of aeromodelling facilities, a reference point for local, state and federal government bodies and advice in respect to risk assessments, competition rules and safety issues.
When do we Fly
Members can fly on any day but when you are new, come out to Victoria Park on Sundays where someone can be organised to help you with your new model.
We fly regularly but not every weekend at Victoria Park and SSL Club field at Milang.
How can we teach you
There is not always someone available to teach you to fly on any given day. To best facilitate your starting out please phone or email one of us on the Contact Us page so that we can be prepared and ensure you get properly set up.
New models will need to be test glided before they are properly launched to ensure the trim and centre of gravity are correctly set. Members will instruct you on flying techniques and assist you to launch and ensure you have a good experience. SSL members only fly Gliders and Electric powered sports planes or park flyers. If your interest is in power models there are other clubs you can join.
Radio Control Frequencies
The most common was 36Mhz. and if you are flying with a 36 Mhz radio your frequency must be registered by using the key board or with the field controller. You may have the same frequency as another flyer on the field and it essential that you both register your frequency and negotiate when it is safe to turn your radio on. Failure to do this may result in accidents. This is not so much an issue now as a large percentage of flyers are using 2.4 Ghz radios
Batteries for powered models
When purchasing your plane it is essential to have the appropriate batteries and spend some time on getting the right advice and equipment to charge these. Ensure your batteries are conditioned and are fully charged when you arrive at the field. For more flying time buy at least one spare battery. Read any safety advice that comes with the battery and do not charge unattended.
