Electric Thermal Class
Electric Glider
This contest is a 5 minute timed duration event with a precision landing for electric powered sailplanes that are 2 metre or under in wingspan. This event is now run with height limiters set at 200 metre to throttle off. This is held at Victoria Park.
Open Electric Thermal
The competition is open to any electric powered thermal glider which has a height limiting device fitted (ie something which can be set to cut off the throttle when the model reaches a predetermined altitude). This is a new event for 2009 and a couple of different rules will be trialled. Because of the size and speed of these planes this competition is run at Milang
The Radian Challenge
An hilarious competition for the Parkzone Radian foam ARF electric glider. All models launch together, which so far has been up to 10 flyers, for a 15 second motor run. Motors are cut and you try to stay aloft for 5 minutes and land inside a designated landing area before the 5 minutes expires. Scoring is based on a point system, first one down inside 5 minutes gets 1 point plus one point for being in the landing zone -points are deducted for over time. The flyer with the most points wins. There is a prize and trophy for each winner and there will be a major prize and trophy for the overall winner. As at July 2010 we have run several of these competitions and it is proving to be a fun and popular event drawing even some of our representatives in international thermalling competitions.
